A call to the Devine Feminine recognized in warmth. This painting is deeply inspired by a meditative experience of mine - and by deeply I mean I didn't even realize it until I was typing this. Woah.
Divine Empress is one of my favourite paintings I’ve ever created.
She began with something very personal to me.. I’ve always adored painting the beauty and anatomy of the female form, but I’ve struggled with drawing human faces completely from scratch. Instead of letting that limitation stop me, I turned it into part of the artwork. The woman became something beyond human, taking on the head of a tiger and everything that comes with it.
To me, the tiger represents the instinctive, powerful, sensual energy that a woman can carry within her. She is softness and strength at the same time as beautiful, mysterious, confident, and completely untamed.
The pink, orange, and white background was created with an almost cosmic, energetic feeling, inspired by the kind of visionary imagery I’ve always been drawn to. It surrounds her with a sense of movement and inner energy, as though we’re seeing not just the woman herself, but the force that lives inside her.
Divine Empress is about embracing the animal within us — that primal, sensual, feminine energy that doesn’t need permission to exist.
This painting started from something I thought I couldn’t do, and somehow became one of the pieces I’m most proud of.
This is an original painting on stretched canvas and it has had prints made of it. Prints also available in extremely limited quantity until more are made.
